12th Arsana Festival

For many years in July, the oldest Slovenian town Ptuj has been a crossroads of music artists from different parts of the world, where concerts of top classical, jazz, ethno, world, rock, instrumental and vocal music are upgraded by street events, youth stage, children’s music festival, music in the city, Open Kitchen, and rich accompanying program. Arsana Festival has so far hosted more than 8,000 artists and attracted over 300,000 visitors in eleven versions with more than 7,500 events in many venues in the city center. This year the 12th Arsana Festival will be held in Ptuj between 24 and 30 July 2020. Due to a new normality this year, the festival will be exceptionally but with pride, 100% Slovenian! This year, for the first time, the festival will be held in the municipality of Ormož. Many events will also be available for the first time via live streaming.
This year, the children’s music festival will kick off for young and older children at the main venue, the Courtyard of the Minorite Monastery, with Neca Falk and Maček Muri already in the morning. In the evening, you will be able to hear the musical work entitled The Port of Life II. – ENSO written by the composer Žan Tetičkovič, performing with Lenart Krečič, Ana Čop, Tomaž Gajšt, Jani Moder, Marko Črnčec, Miha Koren and Jean John.
For the opening of the festival we host Big Band RTV SLO under the baton of the conductor Tadej Tomšič, exclusively with soloists Klemen Slakonja, Maja Keuc, Ana Soklič, Alenka Godec, and Rudi Bučar. The musical evenings continue with a tribute to the King of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis Presley with HEARTBREAK HOTEL: Oto Pestner & Uroš Perić feat Bluenote Quartet, and 1 on 1: Gušti & Tomi Meglič in the magical dialogue of the champions of concert rock. Arsana Festival 2020 ends with Vlado Kreslin in the Minorites, who together with selected guests will show that rock’n’roll in Beltinci sounds different than in Nashville.
Young virtuosos will perform in Ptuj Castle Festival Hall: Recital of the violinist Ana Julija Mlejnik and the pianist Tanja Činč on Monday, followed by Ameba String Quartet on Tuesday, students of the The Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory, and Emona String Quartet on Wednesday.
Music in the city will be heard this year at the Mitra Hotel, where Blaž Švagan trio: Vladimir Kostadinović & Stefan Bartuš will perform, and next week at Muzikafe Momento Cigano. In the Dominican Monastery, local and regular guests of the festival will perform: Tadej Toš and the narrative Kurent written by Liljana Klemenčič with Prešeren Award Winner Stojan Kerbler with an interactive performance. Free outdoor events will be held on Slovenski trg seven evenings in a row as already established Youth stage: The Golden Frets, Katarina Samobor & Jure Pišek, Sain Duet, Hinotama, Rock Marathon of the Instrumental.ko Music School and the Arsana Vocal School and the Closing of the Summer Music School, which will last three days and complement this year’s children’s music festival in creative workshops, musical fairy tales and artistic performances.
The 12th Arsana Festival will host Tango Story & Irena Yebuah Tiran on 20 June 2020 in Ormož and Severa Gjurin with a group, at the fairy-tale Castle’s Outhouse Ormož.
